what is a twisted halo?

it's the shape of our signature donut. made from a custard batter, you might also recognize it as a french cruller or a churro. it was also the name of our pop-up, where we started at shelburne farmer's market in 2021.

we met working as baristas and saved up tip money to buy baking equipment. we shaped, proofed, fried and glazed tens of thousands of donuts in our little camp tent kitchen over the next three years, with the help of family and friends. if you've been here from the beginning, you'll remember us in a happy delirium from pulling all-nighters to prepare dough in a tiny kitchen mixer, sipping on a cold brew and frying off your donuts to order. afterwards we'd often have to whip our aprons off and run to our next shifts at our "real jobs," baking and waitressing.

we've done pop-ups all over vermont including shelburne farmer's market, winooski farmer's market, the get down at the barge canal, city hall park in burlington, and the old brick store in charlotte.

since the beginning, we've used nitty gritty flour, milled from organic wheat grown in charlotte, vermont. all of our baked goods and espresso drinks are now made with monument farms dairy, and we use vermont eggs and ploughgate butter in our laminated pastries.

as kids who grew up here in farming communities, twisted halo represents what we love about vermont.

our waitsfield shop is located on the banks of the mad river, with a view of the swimming hole at the great eddy bridge, one of the oldest covered bridges in vermont. our essex shop is inside the lang family's barn, which was previously a dairy farm.

we hope that you enjoy the spaces we're creating just as much as the products we make in them!
